National Certification Review Program
Experienced interpreters may take the program to review medical terminology in Spanish and in English and to review medical interpreting principles before they take the national certification exam. If only taking for review and certificate is not needed, you may take the program at a reduced fee.
Start Dates:
Enrollment is flexible and you may start at any time.
Beginning in August 2011, the completion time for the program is 3 months. We want to make sure that students complete the program. However, some students have completed the whole program in 2-3 weeks so it all depends on your goals and your available time. Course extensions beyond 3 months may be requested.
Program Prerequisites:
1. Education: At least two years of college-level course work. Or documented experience as a professional interpreter for at least 4 years.
2. Language skills: College-level language proficiency in English and Spanish (oral and written)
3. Basic Internet skills
4. Internet access and computer microphone for recording audios.
5. Telephone access
Course Requirements to receive a certificate of completion:
1. At least 70% average grade on all quizzes and exams. 90% passing grade for the Final Exam.
2. Completion of all oral and written assignments as required.
3. Pass the oral skills exam or proctored exam.
4. Pass the English Medical Terminology Pronunciation evaluation.
Course Content:
Part 1: English-Spanish Medical Terminology (30 Hours)
Part 2: Medical Interpreting Principles (20 Hours)
These are average completion times. Completion time varies depending on your knowledge and skill levels, Internet connection, Internet skills, etc. We strive to provide personal service therefore enrollment is limited.
