What is the Email Program?
We started the Email Program because most of the challenges that online students have do not generally involve learning the content or material, but mainly the following issues:
Not having time to log in to the Online Course Website.
Forgetting their Log-In and Password.
Forgetting to log in.
Not remembering how to navigate the website even after they receive Orientation.
Getting behind with course work and the rushing through the program.
So in order to make it easier for people like you, who might have full-time jobs, and full-time responsibilities at home, we designed the Email Program to eliminate those barriers to online learning.
Now, you don't have to try to remember your Log In and Password. You probably have at least half a dozen different passwords by now anyway.
You don't have to remember to log in. Your lessons come to you directly into your email Inbox.
You don't have to learn how to navigate an Elearning Website. You just click on a link and you're reading the lessons. Just like browsing on the Internet.
Your lessons are delivered to you on a schedule that you can work with.
What is it like to take an Email Program?
First, you will receive the instructions and guidelines on how to make the most of the Email Format.
This is the link to our curriculum so you can review what you will be learning from the program:
You may also copy and paste the url to a new window in your browser:
Your lessons are packaged into different sections in order to help you learn more efficiently.
There are separate sections for lessons, audios, videos, drills, assignments, patient education practice, and tests.
You receive one lesson at a time and complete them one at a time before proceeding to the next lesson.
Each lesson has an assignment and a test. You must pass each lesson's assignment and test before you proceed to the next lesson. This helps you keep on track of your progress and help you manage your time better.
How do I learn by Email?
I'm glad you asked!
I'm very pleased to announce that each student is assigned a personal mentor who will work with you throughout the program. Your mentor will review your audio assignments and work with you on fluency, accuracy and comprehension of the subject matter. By working with your mentor, you will have a better and more personalized learning experience, with one-on-one attention to your learning needs. For any questions about the lessons and how to improve your skills, your mentor is the person to go to. For any technical questions, or questions about the program, you can always call me or email me, or even text me! You're never alone! We're right here with you to help you complete the program.
You will be practicing your skills right away starting on Lesson 1 Assignment. You will be explaining terms and concepts in English and in your non-English language (L2). We emphasize comprehension, not memorization. You will improve your understanding and ability to explain concepts verbally, while enhancing your memory to retain the information without a lot of memorization.
A sample from a Part 1 Audio Assignment submitted by a student:
We go through the process of learning step by step. First you learn the information. Then you explain the information in English. Then you explain the information in your L2. By recording and listening to yourself speak, you would be able to identify areas that you need to improve. By receiving feedback from your mentor, you will receive objective information on what you are doing correctly, practical help in improving your knowledge and comprehension, and exercises to enhance your skills.
In Part 2, you will learn the techniques, the Standards, and the Code of Ethics for medical interpreters. You would be expected to apply your knowledge of medical terminology and your professional interpreting skills during simulated scenarios.
You would be expected to demonstrate knowledge of Part 1 concepts during the oral testing of medical terminology, demonstrate Part 2 professional skills in consecutive sight translation, and professional Standards during the Final Oral Skills Evaluation with two program proctors. This is a live, two and a half-hour evaluation and coaching session. This ensures that you have the knowledge of the Standards, Code of Ethics and Roles of the Interpreter, language and technical proficiency, and medical interpreting skills to graduate from the program.
I'm really busy right now. I don't know if I have time to do everything and get done in 3 months.
Yes, I understand your concern. Online learning does require investment of your precious time and energy.
With the Email Program, you have a choice of receiving one lesson per day or receiving one lesson every 5 days. Then you would be able to plan your learning schedule that would work best for your needs.
If you are systematic in completing each lesson as you receive them, reading the lessons, submitting the assignments, and completing the test, then you would be on schedule.
If you receive and complete each lesson daily, you should be able to finish the program in 3 weeks or less.
If you receive and complete each lesson every 5 days, you should be able to finish the program within 3 months.
I want to get done as soon as possible!
That's great! Then you would sign up for the daily option.
Complete each lesson, including the assignments and test, daily, then proceed to the next lesson as they arrive in your Inbox.
And if you would like to receive more than 1 lesson per day, you may sign up for an Expedited Option for a small fee and we would set you up for how many lessons per day that you would like to receive.
The only requirement is that you complete all of the lessons on the day that you receive them before you start on the next group of lessons. If you get behind on the course work, we may need to HOLD the next set of lessons until you get caught up.
This is to ensure that you will continue to have a quality learning experience.
I'm already a healthcare professional with medical terminology knowledge. I just need to receive a certificate.
We would love to have you join our Fast Track Program!
With the Fast Track Program, you simply submit the assignments that students would normally complete for Part 1 Anatomy and Medical Terminology. This is to validate your language skills and your medical terminology skills.
After successful completion of the assignments, you would proceed to Part 2, Medical Interpreting Principles, which has three modules.
Then you would scheduled for the Final Oral Skills Evaluation, the last activity before you receive your certificate!
