MISA
Medical Interpreting Skills Assessment
Who is the MISA for?
- Employers: To assess the language fluency, anatomy and general medical terminology knowledge, and medical interpreting skills of their bilingual employees.
- Healthcare Providers (HCP): HCPs who self-identify as fluent in both languages are evaluated on language and medical communication skills.
- Experienced interpreters: To prepare for job interview or to prepare for interpreter testing, or national certification exams.

- Specialized assessments for specialties such as OB, Orthopedics, Diabetes, Cardiology, etc.
- Specialized assessments for your Business Associates/Third-Party Interpreters to verify their ability to interpret for your organization's medical specialties.
Who evaluates the candidate?
- Healthcare Professionals: Physicians, nurses, physical therapist, nuclear medicine technologist who speak the language pair and who have received a Professional Clinical Interpreter Certificate.
- A healthcare professional may partner with a CMI/CHI who speaks the language pair, and/or with another healthcare professional who speaks the non-English language to evaluate the fluency and accuracy of the candidate's rendition.
- A healthcare professional may evaluate the accuracy of interpretation using our proprietary online testing method, which may combine a live over-the-phone session with computerized assessment.
